Horst Klinkenborg joined Suncor Energy Marketing Inc. July 2017 as Senior Regulatory Advisor. He has 19 years of experience in the Alberta electricity market. His extensive experience includes short term market analytics, long term market forecasting, business planning and regulatory and policy matters ranging from “Quick Hits” to climate policy to the former proposal for a capacity market in Alberta. In his current role, Horst is responsible for all electricity market design issues like, for example, the recent AESO Tariff proceeding. Due to Suncor being a large industrial consumer with significant investment in cogeneration, Horst can provide insight as to how electricity market design affects both sides of the market.
Horst has a Diplom in Mathematics from the University of Oldenburg, Germany with a focus on applied mathematics and mathematical modeling. He started his career as a quantitative analyst for a German bank; an engagement that continued after he moved to Canada in 2001.
